Ok, so the addition of CR to your firewall depends on the platform. For windows the rule should be added to allow the Blender executable to listen on all TCP ports. You can restrict this to just ports 9669 to 9694 if you'd rather narrow this down a bit. Note that if you decide to use a different port range in Crowdrender's settings, you'll have to remind yourself to also change the port range for the firewall settings as well.
You may also be running a firewall on your Mac. The same applies to windows, you need to allow Blender to receive incoming connections on the default ports of 9669 - 9694 (unless you have configured the addon to use a different port range).
